Checking Student Progress

Overview

The Competencies tool also allows you to monitor student progress towards achieving competencies and learning objectives.  You can view the progress of the entire class or focus on just one student.  With this information, you can identify students who are struggling and provide evidence that you are achieving the desired outcomes of the course.

Step 1. From any course Home Page, click the Assessment dropdown and select the Competencies tool.

Step 2 From the “Competency Home” page, click on the Competency or Learning Objective that you would like to review student progress on.  You may need to expand the competency structure to find the Competency or Learning Objective that you are looking for. Clicking on the Competency will take you to the “Edit Competency” page.

Step 3.  On the “Edit Competency” page, click the Results button towards the top of the page.  This will take you to the “Competency Results” page.

Step 4.  On the “Competency Results” page, you will see a list of students in your course.  The “Completed?” column in the list lets you know whether the student has achieved the competency (a green check mark) or not (a red 'X').  In the below image, none of the students have achieved the competency.  You may now want to “dive deeper” to see why a student has not achieved the competency. Click on an individual student’s name to see the competency structure for that student.

Step 5 You can now see the competencies, learning objectives, and activities associated with the competency, as well as whether or not they have been assessed and completed.  A green check indicates that the competency/learning objective/activity has been assessed and achieved.  A red 'X' indicates that the competency/learning objective/activity has been assessed but not achieved.  The yellow '–' is used on activities that have not yet been assessed.
