Overview
Once you have created your Groups, you can easily create discussion topics that will be automatically group restricted. To create restricted topics, you must first create a forum. For more information about creating forums click here.
After the forum is created, you can create Group Discussions by creating a Topic then adding the Group and Section Restrictions to the Topic.
Creating a Group Topic
From the Discussions tool, create a new Topic by clicking the New button and then selecting New Topic from the drop-down.
- Add a Topic Title and Description.
- Under Availability Dates and Conditions set up Start and End dates
- Add Group and Section Restrictions by clicking Manage Restrictions
- You can select Restrict topic or Restrict topic and separate the threads
Restrict topic: Users in the selected groups/sections can view this topic and all of its threads.
Restrict topic and separate the threads: Users in the selected groups/sections can view this topic but will only see threads from their group/section.
- Select the Group Category within the drop down menu.
When you look at the Topic in the Discussion tool, it should look like the following. Note the Group/section restrictions icon.
