Creating Group Discussions

Overview

Once you have created your Groups, you can easily create discussion topics that will be automatically group restricted. To create restricted topics, you must first create a forum. For more information about creating forums click here.

After the forum is created, you can create Group Discussions by creating a Topic then adding the Group and Section Restrictions to the Topic. 


Creating a Group Topic

From the Discussions tool, create a new Topic by clicking the New button and then selecting New Topic from the drop-down.

  1. Add a Topic Title and Description.
     
  2. Under Availability Dates and Conditions set up Start and End dates
     
  3. Add Group and Section Restrictions by clicking Manage Restrictions

  1. You can select Restrict topic or Restrict topic and separate the threads

    Restrict topic: Users in the selected groups/sections can view this topic and all of its threads.

    Restrict topic and separate the threads: Users in the selected groups/sections can view this topic but will only see threads from their group/section.
     

  2. Select the Group Category within the drop down menu.

When you look at the Topic in the Discussion tool, it should look like the following.  Note the Group/section restrictions icon.
